Karate School

Our Dojo is under a karate federation known as World Shotokan Karate-Do Federation (W.S.K.F). Established since 1990 in Japan and since 1994 in the UK, Renseikan Dojo (translation: “Practice-Makes-Perfect Club”) has an excellent reputation of delivering a high-standard teaching scheme of Shotokan style karate.

Takeshi Akiyama (Black Belt 3rd Dan) officially authorised by one of the largest karate organisations and is CRB checked.  He has more than 20 years of martial arts experience, started martial arts practising Kendo in 1970, then moved onto different styles of Karate (Okinawan style and full-contact style and Chinese martial arts). He has now been practicing Shokotan style Karate since 2005. He has nearly 10 years teaching experience.
He is very friendly and passionate about teaching children karate.

How will training benefit me?
We teach many self-defensive moves and techniques. As our training scheme can be physically demanding, you will gradually develop a good athletic stamina and strength. You will also be rewarded with learning a way of discipline, commitment and confidence.

What support can I expect?
We are all beginners when we first start. Our Dojo provides a friendly support to those who are starting out. You will be looked after by Takeshi or senior students whilst training.

How often should I come to the training?
It’s recommended to train with us ideally two times a week for Senior grades or once a week for Junior grades. This is necessary if you would like to improve on your skills on a consistent pace.

It is advised that your children should be at least 6 years old to join our class, as children under this age may find many of our exercise to be too complex to follow.
